Species like ice plant are invasive because they are plants from other regions of the world with large reproductive capacity, endurance, rapid growth, easy adjustment and easy dispersion without the help of man. With this voluntary action we intend to remove the ice plants from the surrounding area of the temporary pool of Vale Santo and restore this fragile habitat that it’s a priority for biodiversity conservation.

The Mediterranean Temporary Ponds are a natural habitat that offers a set of unique plants with high conservation status.  In this lecture a brief presentation will be made of the plants that live in extreme ecological conditions throughout the year alternating between aquatic and terrestrial stages.
