European Commission approves LIFE Charcos Project

> It officially started in july 2013

 

The Project LIFE Charcos formally launched in July 2013, having already accomplished the 1st meeting of partners and the first field trips for cartographic surveys and confirmation of indicator species of flora. The most intensive field work will begin with the rainy season, when the ponds start again its phase flooding.

The European Commission approved the LIFE + project "Conservation Temporary Ponds in the southwest coast of Portugal", whose acronym is LIFE Charcos, coordinated by the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN) and has a partnership of several public and private institutions, in particular the University of Évora (UÉvora), the University of Algarve (UAlg), the Municipality of Odemira (CMO) and the Beneficiaries Association of Mira (ABM).

The European Commission approved this year 248 projects through the LIFE + program (the 1159 applications received from 27 Member States), the financial instrument of the European Union for the Environment. Of these, 7 projects will take place in Portugal (5 projects LIFE + Nature, 1 LIFE + Biodiversity and 1 LIFE + Environment Policy and Governance).
