"Temporary Ponds: a natural habitat to be protected!"

LIFE Charcos goes to the schools in the Southwest Coast

> Communicate, educate and raise awareness for the conservation of temporary ponds is a common goal between the project and the schools in the southwest coast. There are already many schools that have joined the environmental education plan which provides explanations, field trips, contests and lots of fun activities.

The environmental education plan of LIFE Charcos project proposes the use of educational content within the curriculum of various disciplines, including environmental studies, natural sciences, biology, ecology, complementary education and education for citizenship. Pedagogical techniques attempt to be as diverse as possible to cover the various levels of education.

Obviously, the central point of these environmental education activities is the conservation of temporary ponds in the southwest coast. Therefore, main goal between the education system and us is the nature conservancy and schools of this region joined promptly the LIFE Charcos.

The project has already been presented in several classes in many schools and different locations of Odemira and Vila do Bispo. Field trips have proved to be a very enriching component for students and course for teachers too. There was removal of invasive species to temporary ponds, contests and very artistic works.

Students in Budens’ kindergarten are a great example of the extraordinary learning ability who managed to surprise us by build a collective panel based on MONET. They wanted to find solutions to the threats that temporary ponds face and so created “The pond with Monet's Bridge".
