"Temporary Ponds: a natural habitat to be protected!"

Changes in agricultural and livestock practices

> Cease of agricultural activity

The abandon of traditional agriculture practices allows   perennial plants to colonize the pond because they can tolerate some flooding (herbaceous), hence will compete with typical annual plants of MTP’s. In addition, the more ephemeral the MTP is, the more abundant these perennial plants are. However, the activities related to agricultural intensification (tillage for earthworks, as well as deepening, drainage, irrigation or fertilization) have a greater negative impact on MTP’s and are more frequent in the area favoured by the Irrigation Perimeter of  Mira.
